Bengaluru (Karnataka), 2nd June 2023: Foxconn, an Apple Inc supplier, will begin producing iPhones in the southern Indian state of Karnataka by April 2024. The news was shared to the public by the state government on Thursday.

According to Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries claimed that the land for the facility will be handed over to Foxconn by July 1, and that the project, worth Rs 13,000 crore ($1.59 billion), would create roughly 50,000 employment opportunities for people in the state.

Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics maker, has set a goal of producing 20 million iPhones per year at its plant in Devanahalli, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, the state capital and Indian Technology hub.

After China’s rigorous Covid-related restrictions hampered the production of new iPhones and other products, Apple has begun relocating production away from the country. The IT behemoth is also attempting to prevent a blow to its company as a result of tensions between Beijing and Washington.
