Mumbai, 10th July 2023: Reliance Jio has filed a case with the Navi Mumbai police against unknown fraudsters who promised individuals jobs with the telecom giant. According to police officials, the firm claims to have received up to 33 similar incidents in the last three months.
The company stated that, when a job offer is made to an applicant, the company also mentions an employee ID in the letter, which was absent in the false letter. The fraudsters sought money in the guise of delivering mobile phones and laptops, but the organisation does not seek financial gain when offering a position.
According to the police, the telecom giant discovered the fraud after some of the victims emailed them ‘appointment letters’. The crooks utilised a letterhead with a phoney Reliance Jio logo and trademark.
The 33 people who contacted the company had collectively lost 3 lakh in order to secure the job.
Sudhir Nair, the company’s deputy manager, made a complaint, and the Rabale police station filed a FIR against the unidentified accused.
Nair reportedly said in the FIR, “The accused have not only copied the trademark and logo of the company but have also created email ids that look like they belong to the company…The company does not ask for money from any candidate for offering a job nor do they contact anyone via email or SMS directly.”
The phoney job offers were mostly from domain names that did not belong to the organisation, such as reliancejiohiring , hiringreliancejio online, and reliancejioindiaofficial@ gmail
According to the authorities, the offender approached the candidate via text messages and phone calls acting as a Reliance Jio HR representative, and then conducted a phoney interview over the phone.
The accused would then inform them that in order to receive an offer letter, they must pay for the company’s mobile phone and laptop. To gain their trust, the accused would also send them phoney offer letters bearing the company’s logo and trademark.
