Fresh snowfall, rains revive cold conditions in Himachal

Shimla, Mar 3 (PTI) The high-altitude tribal areas and higher hills in Himachal Pradesh had another spell of light snowfall, while light rains occurred at isolated places in mid and lower hills reviving the cold wave conditions.

The mercury dropped by few notches in across the state and high-altitude tribal area reeled under piercing cold wave conditions with minimum temperature dipping 12 to 16 degrees Celsius below freezing point, local MeT office said.

Keylong and Kalpa in tribal Lahaul and Spiti recorded a low of minus 8.2 and minus 2.1 degrees Celsius, respectively, weather officials said.

The key tourist resort of Manali shivered at minus 0.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Bhuntar (3.5), Solan (4.2), Shimla (4.8), Sundernagar (5.6), Palampur (6), Una (9.2), Nahan (10.3) and Dharamsala (10.8).

High-altitude tribal areas received 5 cm of fresh snow, while Keylong had mild snowfall and Manali and Bhuntar recorded 5.2 mm and 5.4 mm rains. The sky remained heavily overcast in Shimla and mild showers lashed the region, they said.

Maximum temperature dropped by two notches at Una to stand at 27.0 degrees Celsius, followed by Nahan (24.1), Sundernagar (23.2), Solan (20.6), Bhuntar (20.5), Dharmshala (20.2), Shimla (16), Manali (12.6) and Kalpa (10.2).

The MeT office has predicted dry weather for next two days and rains or snow at one or two places in higher hills from March 6 to 8.
