Gadar 2 becomes second highest grossing opener of 2023 after Pathaan, crosses ₹30 cr mark on Day 1

Mumbai(India), 11/08/23: Gadar 2, the new film starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, is expected to be a box office smash. The film, which opened in theatres on Friday, is expected to gross ₹35 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film achieved a 36.73% Hindi occupancy on its first day, which is projected to increase throughout the weekend.

With this, Gadar 2 becomes the second-highest Bollywood opener of 2023, trailing only Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which made ₹57 crore on its opening day.

Gadar 2 is a sequel to the 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, directed by Anil Sharma. It tells the narrative of Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), a father who crosses the border into Pakistan to save his kid Jeete (Utkarsh Sharma). Ameesha Patel reprises her role as Sakeena in the film as well.

Taran Adarsh, a film trade expert, announced a few hours before Gadar 2’s release that the film had sold about 2.75 lakh tickets in advance bookings at major cinema chains.

He stated on X, “#Gadar2 FINAL advance booking status at national chains [till Thu night]… Note: DAY 1 biz… #PVR: 1,16,000 #INOX: 1,01,000 #Cinepolis: 57,000 Total: 2,74,000 tickets sold.”

The audience has mainly given Gadar 2 positive reviews. However, Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, which was released alongside Gadar 2, is also gaining traction due to excellent word of mouth. Both the movies are expected to draw a large crowd over the weekend.
