Police have prepared sketches of five men who allegedly gangraped a 35-year-old woman in Ghaziabad’s Vijay Nagar area Friday, but are yet to achieve a breakthrough.

”An FIR has been registered against unknown persons. Based on the victim’s account, sketches of the suspects have been made. These men allegedly took away money and mobile phones of the victim and her relative. We are trying to trace the location of these phones,” said a senior police officer Sunday.

The woman was on her way home from work with a cousin on a bike when they were waylaid after taking a detour to avoid heavy traffic.

Her brother said, “There was a lot of traffic after crossing Hindon, so they took a small unpaved lane which later joins NH 24. This is not the first time they took this route. They were stopped by five men, beaten up, and their wallets and mobile phones were taken away. They dragged my sister towards the bushes and raped her.” The woman’s family said she had been taking the route to work for the last 15 years. “In the last 15 years, there has never been an instance of people following her or harassing her. She has not been keeping well for the last few months. The police have not been able to track down these men. We would urge the women’s commission to help us,” said the woman’s brother. A case was registered at Vijay Nagar police station in Ghaziabad Saturday.
