Indirapuram’s CISF Road to be signal-free by December

GHAZIABAD: To get rid of traffic snarls particularly during peak hours on the busy CISF Road in Indirapuram, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) is working on a plan to make a 3km-long stretch of the road signal-free.

GDA officials told TOI on Saturday that a complete makeover of the stretch – from NH-24 to Kanawani culvert – is underway and the work will be completed by the end of this year, after which commuters will be able to enjoy a signal-free ride on the road that currently has three intersections.

The makeover includes removal of traffic lights from the three intersections as well as making way for a U-turn on this 3km-long stretch to enable motorists to turn back from the middle of the road.

“Thousands of commuters from Ghaziabad use this arterial road daily to go to Noida and we came up with the idea of making it signal-free. A complete makeover of the road is underway at a cost of Rs 6 crore and work will be completed by December,” said Kaptan Singh, executive engineer of GDA and in-charge of Indirapuram.

But some residents are already frowning on the idea. They are of the view that in absence of traffic signals, pedestrians would have a tough time crossing the road.

“If the road becomes signal-free, pedestrians crossing over from Ahimsa Khand 2 to 1 will have really face a tough time crossing the road. They cannot compromise with pedestrians’ safety,” said Avrat Krishnan of Ahimsa Khand 2.

Alok Kumar, president of Federation of Apartment Owners’ Association also echoed similar concerns. “Since malls and shopping complexes are all in Ahimsa Khand 2, residents from the other side in Ahimsa Khand 1 will have to cross the road for their daily needs.”
