Tragedy of the rape victims who choose death over stigma

In fire she sought escape — a 16-year-old girl from Ghaziabad who was allegedly assaulted by four boys — from humiliation. Ever since that assault, the girl and her family were being targeted with abusive words and unsavoury suggestions. It went on for weeks, till the girl decided to put an end to her life; she set herself on fire on Thursday morning at her house under Vijay Nagar police station. On Friday morning, she died at Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital. She had suffered about 90 per cent burn injury, police said.
