Soon, pink autos for women in #Ghaziabad

GHAZIABAD: The regional transport office is in the final stages of introducing pink autos for women passengers in the city.

According to officials, a meeting with the transport commissioner is scheduled to take place on June 25. Apart from pink autos, modalities for operation of e-rickshaws will also be worked out.

“According to the directive from the state transport ministry, introduction of pink autos and e-rickshaws needs to expedited and it is in this backdrop that the meeting is taking place” said Mayank Jyoti, regional transport officer of Ghaziabad. Jyoti said that any men accompanying women will also be allowed to travel by the pink autos. “The pink autos will be similar to normal autos, except for the colour. The fare will also be the same as normal autos.” However, the routes where these autos would ply have not yet been decided.

To ensure women safety, the licence will be given to prospective drivers only after proper verification, and drivers will have to carry their badge at all times. The permit will be given on first-come first-serve basis.
