12 hospitalised after ammonia gas leak in #Ghaziabad factory

At least 12 workers were hospitalised in a critical condition after ammonia gas leaked at a factory in Ghaziabad on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at the Sahibabad-based meat processing unit of Allana Frigorifico Ltd. The gas leaked from the unit’s refrigeration plant at around 12:30 pm.

Soon after the gas leaked, the workers started feeling nauseous and six of them fell unconscious.

The management immediately rushed them to a nearby Hospital. Five workers have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

A case has been registered against two officials of the company for negligence at the Link Road police station.

Ammonia gas has a pungent smell and on being inhaled can cause severe irritation of the nose and throat.
