#Ghaziabad transport department flouts #NGT order
NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: Despite NGT’s order on Ghaziabad transport department has issued fitness certificates of 1990 and 2002 make models. TOI has copies of fitness certificate of these vehicles which are issued by Ghaziabad transport department with the provision of motor vehicle act 1988. UP transport commissioner has promised to take stringent action into the matter.
TOI has copies of two fitness certificates, issued by Ghaziabad transport department. One of the model make of a truck is 1990 (bearing registration UP 14 J 9167). Certificate of the vehicle was issued by Ghaziabad transport department on February 2016 and will expire on February 2017.
Another fitness certificate of 2002 make truck (registration number UP 14 Q 2455) was also issued by Ghaziabad transport department. Both vehicles are 10 years old and as per NGT’s directions, fitness certificates of such vehicles, which are 10 year or above old vehicles cannot be issued.
On April 7, 2015 the NGT had directed that diesel vehicles which were over 10 years old should not be permitted to ply in Delhi and NCR. The Supreme Court had also dismissed a plea that challenged the Tribunal’s order. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) August 2015 refused to modify its order banning the plying of diesel vehicles, which were more than 10 years old, in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).
The transport department officials said that it cannot issue fitness certificates to 10 year old or above vehicles, the department however can issue no objection certificate to these vehicles to register other than Delhi-NCR.
