Girl raped, set ablaze by cousin; dies in UP

Bulandshahr (UP), Apr 9 (PTI) A 21-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her cousin who first raped her and then set himself and the victim ablaze, in Gopalganj area of Sikandrabad town of this district, police said today.

The accused, Sanjiv (25), received serious burn injuries.

He is hospitalised in critical condition in Meerut, they said.

The incident took place last night when the girl, staying with her elder sister, was alone at her residence in Sikandrabad town. Sanjiv came to the house and raped her, Superintendent of Police (City) Ram Mohan Singh said.

The accused then poured petrol on the victim and himself and set both aflame. They were rushed to the medical college hospital in Meerut where the woman died today and Sanjiv is battling for life.
