New Delhi News (10/08/2025): The India International Handwoven Expo 2025, organised by the Handloom Export Promotion Council under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, concluded with resounding success at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Held from 7–9 August to coincide with National Handloom Day, the prestigious B2B mega event brought together more than 200 exhibitors and 100 overseas buyers, serving as a vibrant platform for showcasing India’s rich and diverse handloom traditions to the world.
The expo was a visual celebration of the country’s centuries-old weaving heritage, with stalls displaying everything from handwoven silk sarees and intricately embroidered fabrics to contemporary fashion accessories, home décor, and kitchen textiles. Buyers from different continents explored India’s craftsmanship up close, interacting with weavers, artisans, and exporters.
A first-time visitor from Uzbekistan expressed amazement at the vast array of colourful products, remarking that he had never seen such vibrancy and variety in one place. He praised the event’s organisation and said it had exceeded his expectations. From Kazakhstan, a buyer of Indian origin shared that this was his first experience at such an expo. He was deeply impressed by the way “big historical Indian culture” was presented through products, adding that items displayed here would be highly sought after in Kazakhstan. He confirmed plans to begin business with Indian exhibitors.
A French buyer, whose interest lay primarily in fashion accessories, homeware, and kitchen products, highlighted the uniqueness of Indian designs and the excellent quality on offer. While acknowledging that perfection is elusive, she rated the event between 8 and 9 out of 10, commending the logistical arrangements and accessibility.
From the United States, a long-time attendee praised the vibrancy of Indian handloom products, particularly those incorporating traditional message-based patterns. She shared that she would be taking back items for personal use as well as gifts for friends, confident they would be appreciated. She also expressed optimism about placing larger export orders in the near future. However, she voiced concern over the tariff imposed by the US President on such imports, calling it a question mark for the future of trade in this sector.
An Irish buyer noted the exceptional quality of silk and embroidery work on display, pointing out that “95% of the world’s handloom products come from India.” He said it was a rare and valuable opportunity to see the diversity of Indian handloom creations from different regions gathered under one roof.
The event stood out not only as a commercial hub but also as a cultural bridge, allowing international buyers to connect with India’s living textile traditions. By blending heritage with modern business opportunities, the India International Handwoven Expo 2025 reaffirmed India’s status as a global leader in the handloom sector, opening fresh pathways for trade, collaboration, and cultural exchange.
