New Delhi, July 26, 2023: What began as a love story during the Covid lockdown in Assam’s Golaghat district turned into a horrifying triple murder. Nazibur Rahman Bora, 25, brutally killed his wife, Sanghamitra Ghosh, 24, and her parents on Monday. He later surrendered to the police, clutching their nine-month-old baby.

Nazibur, a mechanical engineer, and Sanghamitra met on Facebook in June 2020, and their virtual friendship blossomed into love. In October the same year, they eloped to Kolkata and got married in a court. Sanghamitra’s parents brought her back home, but she had already tied the knot with Nazibur.

Their relationship was fraught with turmoil. In January 2022, they eloped again, this time to Chennai, where they lived for five months. Upon returning to Golaghat in August, Sanghamitra was pregnant, and they had a son in November.

However, their happiness was short-lived, as in March, Sanghamitra left Nazibur’s home, accusing him of torture. He was arrested for attempted murder but was later released on bail. The couple’s differences intensified, and Nazibur’s brother also filed a complaint against Sanghamitra and her family.

On Monday, tensions reached a breaking point, and Nazibur committed the heinous crime, killing Sanghamitra and her parents. He fled with their infant son but eventually surrendered to the police.

The Ghosh family’s home was a scene of horror, with the bodies lying in pools of blood from the machete wounds.

Assam police chief GP Singh tweeted that a case of murder and house trespass has been registered against the accused. The state CID team is investigating the matter, and forensic teams are also on the scene.

The tragic end to their love story has left the community in shock, as authorities try to piece together the events that led to the gruesome murders.
