New Delhi (India), 11th May 2023: The search and internet advertising company made a flurry of announcements during its developer conference on Google I/O keynote day on May 10th. During the conference Google revealed that it is developing an experiment called Universal Translator.

This programme seeks to translate videos from one language to another while maintaining the overall tone and vibe.

This means that in addition to translating audio from one language to another, the tool also imitates the speaker’s voice, tone, and facial expressions. The lips will move in time with the spoken words in the outputted video of a person speaking.

The words are initially detected and then translated by Universal Translator. Then, it examines the speaker’s tone and the subject they are focusing on. It generates speech in the target language after integrating these two factors. Last but not least, it syncs the speaker’s lips to the pronunciations of the AI-generated voice.

Currently, Google will be restricting access to Universal Translator because it can be used improperly to produce troublesome deepfakes. As a result, consumers in general will not have access to use its power for constructive projects; only authorised partners will. The promising potential of Universal Translator is constrained by this action, but it also deters undesirable characters and bad actors.

In addition to Universal Translator, Google today unveiled more AI-powered products, such as enhanced Maps navigation, a more intelligent Google Search, and others.

Notably, the business also unveiled some of its eagerly awaited products, including the Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet.

However, the firm spent a substantial portion of its speech previewing its AI-powered capabilities, rather than primarily concentrating on its hardware and forthcoming Android OS enhancements.
