New Delhi, 5th July 2023: Alphabet Inc.’s Google is expected to employ the manufacturing and policy veteran as its senior government affairs executive in India in order to deal with legal hurdles and extend hardware assembly to the nation.

Sreenivasa Reddy, a senior engineering executive at Microsoft Corp., is expected to join Google by the end of the year, according to people familiar with the subject but at the same time requested anonymity.

He previously held key positions on Apple Inc.’s India regulatory team and oversaw government relations at Ericsson AB’s local operation, both of which helped develop domestic manufacturing.

Reddy’s skills will be useful at Google, which is looking for partners in India to construct its Pixel smartphone line as it expands beyond China. The production of Pixel in India could pave the way for the fabrication of future Google hardware goods, such as speakers.

The executive will also assist Google in navigating regulatory issues. In India, the Mountain View, California-based corporation is facing antitrust accusations for allegedly abusing its dominant position in mobile operating systems.

Reddy and Google representatives in India did not respond to calls for comment. Archana Gulati, Google’s previous India policy chief, had left the business last year.

Google is one of the major technology companies that sees India as a crucial growth opportunity. In order to gain more consumers in the world’s most populous country, the business is adding more local languages to its services and looking for methods to make its Android handsets more affordable.

Alphabet Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US last month that the business aims to create a worldwide financial-technology centre in Gujarat International Finance Tech-City, also known as GIFT City.
