UP govt to purchase one lakh tonne of potatoes from farmers to prevent distress selling

Lucknow: After fixing target to purchase record wheat of 80 lakh tonnes from the farmers and announcing farm loan waiver, Uttar Pradesh government has now decided to purchase potatoes directly from the peasants to prevent distress selling.
In the first phase, the Yogi Adityanath government will purchase one lakh tonne of potatoes at a price of Rs 487 per quintal.
UP BJP general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak, in a press statement here today, said that the decision was taken in view of the promise made by the party during the Assembly polls.
