#GST DEPICTED MATURITY OF INDIAN POLITY & DEMOCRACY PASS LITMUS TEST
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) while expressing pleasure on passing of GST opined that “it is a historical day in taxation history of the Country and passing of GST Bill has paved first strong way for transformation of current complicated and multiple cornered taxation system to a simplified taxation regime. The passing of GST has depicted maturity of Indian polity and enabled the democracy to pass litmus test.
However, this is a good beginning but several provisions of Model GST Bill are much detrimental for the trading community and as such it is the right time when consultations should be started with stakeholders. So far the stakeholders have never been consulted on GST by the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers-added CAIT.
The CAIT has complimented Prime Minister, Finance Minister and all political parties for giving safe passage to the Bill, which was a long standing demand of the traders of India. It is a path breaking step in taxation regime and integration of both goods & services will culminate in building a congenial & cohesive atmosphere for ease of doing business in India.
The GST will bring down cascading effect of taxes on value of goods & services and integration of services will enable the manufacturing sector to avail input tax credit on services availed which hopefully will bring down the prices of large number of commodities.
CAIT National President Mr. B.C.Bhartia & Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal said that GST will replace ten year old VAT taxation system which has resulted into wide disparities and ambiguity and became an object of great harassment, victimization and rampant corruption due to multiple taxes and multiple authorities. Prior to VAT, the Sales Tax was also instrumental in giving same treatment and therefore the GST will liberate the traders from the clutches of multiple taxation after sufferings of several decades.
