#Gurgaon police arrests man wanted by CBI in fraud cases

The accused — Himanshu Bhatt — was arrested from Mumbaiyesterday, a spokesman of Haryana Police said today.

A Gurgaon-based company had lodged a complaint with the police that Bhatt had “fraudulently” taken Rs 40 lakh from it with the false promise of getting them a loan of Rs 3.5 crore.

“But when the company did not get loan for a considerable period, the Gurgaon police was informed, which immediately swung into action and registered an FIR dated November 15, 2014 under various sections of the IPC and under the IT Act at Gurgaon Sadar Police Station.

“The investigation of the case was handed over to a team led by Inspector Sudhir Kumar of Cyber Crime Unit, Gurgaon. During investigation, it was found that he was in Mumbai and still cheating people,” the spokesman said.

“Many interesting facts also came to light… The Gurgaon police found that the accused was residing in a posh area in Mumbai’s Goregaon, where some industrialists and those related to film industry also reside.

“He was leading a very lavish life and was a frequent visitor to some foreign countries including Singapore, Malaysia, England, Dubai, USA and Europe. The accused used to befriend fellow passengers on airplanes and later cheat them. At the time of his arrest, he was working out in a gymnasium at Goregaon,” he said, adding that the accused was married and has two children.

“To hoodwink the CBI and the police of some states that were after him, he got his body weight reduced from 125 kg to 76 kg as a result of which he looked younger. He also got some cosmetic changes made on his body to escape arrest,” he said.

The spokesman said the accused used to make bogus documents like letter of credit and PAN card.

He also used to “cheat people by making false promises to get them admission to medical college, business school and engineering colleges.” “It has also been found that he had signed an MoU to co-produce a film,” he said.

Besides police of Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, the spokesperson said the accused was wanted by CBI in three cases including one in which he had got loan of Rs 7.5 crore sanctioned from a nationalised bank through bogus documents.

“The Gurgaon police is still interrogating him,” he said.
