Man kills father, sets car on fire to burn his body

A 65-year-old man was strangled after being thrashed with a baseball bat by his son at their house in west Delhi’s Kirti Nagar.

The body was later burnt in a car in south Delhi’s Kapashera on Thursday.
Police said Subhash Baweja was killed for refusing to transfer his property in his 38-year-old son’s name which could have enabled him to start a business.

Subhash’s burnt body was found in a Maruti Esteem near Kirpa Farms in Kapashera at 9.30 am.

An initial probe revealed that the car belonged to Subhash’s son Abhinav who worked as a manager with a publication house in east Delhi’s Patparganj.
Questioning of family members revealed that the father-son due had a dispute over property.

On the basis of the allegations, Abhinav was apprehended at his house in Kirti Nagar and interrogated at length.

“Abhinav confessed to have killed his father. Abhinav wanted to launch his own company due to which he was in need of funds for quite some time,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) R A Sanjeev.

Subhash used to work as a legal advisor and owned several properties in Delhi and NCR.
His family members told police that Abhinav wanted the Kirti Nagar property to be transferred to his name.

Abhinav planned to sell the property to arrange funds to start his own business.
As Subhash refused his repeated requests, Abhinav decided to kill him to get the property.

Late on Wednesday, Abhinav again discussed the issue with Subhash, but ended up having a heated argument.

As planned, Abhinav attacked Subhash with a baseball bat.

To confirm his death, Abhinav strangled him. Subhash’s body was wrapped in a bedsheet and taken in Abhinav’s car.

“Abhinav planned to dump the body in Gurgaon. But due to heavy traffic on the Delhi-Gurgaon highway, he left the car in Kapashera,” Sanjeev added.

Abhinav had also removed Subhash’s clothes and belongings from the car before setting the car on fire.

Abhinav returned home and planned to flee, but was nabbed by police.
