“GURU PARV AND JANMASHTAMI CELEBRATIONS”- BIMTECH

“Intelligence refers to the power to analyse things in their proper perspective, and knowledge refers to understanding what is spirit and what is matter.”- Lord Krishna

The students at Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Greater Noida celebrated Janmashtami, the birth of Lord Krishna, and Teacher’s Day on 5th September 2015 in the campus with sheer enthusiasm and splendour. Both the events, an annual affair at BIMTECH, are organized by both the students and faculty together, irrespective of their cultural background, and this year too they did not fail to deliver.

The order of programme commenced with the inauguration function of new temple at Bimtech followed by Matki Phod competition, a traditional event in which teams of up to 11 people form pyramids to break a high hanging pot of flowers and colour. 8 teams participated, consisting of both students and the college staff, and they did an excellent job in representing the legend of the child-god, Sri Krishna.
There were plethora of fun activities organized by the students for all the teachers. The activities included Arm wrestling, Tambola, Musical chair etc. All the conduit and club members showed love and gratitude by giving various gifts to all the faculties.

This was followed by a small play by “Vaikuntha Players” and a Rock Band performance by “Z Rising Rock Band”. Both these groups are associated with ISKCON. The main objective of ISKON is to spread the Holy name of Bhagawan Shri Krishna all around the world. This society was started in 1965, Boston, America, bringing the Vedic culture to the west.

But the highlight of the day was the Dandiya Raas, in which students dressed up in traditional attire and played dandiya, a favorite pastime of Lord Krishna, accompanied by devotional music. At 12 am the Janmashtami puja was conducted, and prasad, a religious offering of food, was distributed among the students and faculty, thus concluding the celebrations of a long but eventful day.

BIMTECH, despite being a business school, has always celebrated events and occasions of all sorts to foster unity and develop bonds with the students, who come from several diverse backgrounds. Thus proving that despite modernism, it still teaches its students to respect their history and traditions, and this was one such example.
