Gzb working to improve Smart City plan for phase 2 of mission

Gaziabad: GMC has started work on improving the Smart City proposal, which it had sent to the Union urban development ministry in December. GMC officials held a meeting with the department of urban development in Lucknow last week to discuss an improvement plan for the proposal.

The revised proposal — with the improvement plan incorporated into it — will be sent to the urban development ministry for assessment and selection in the second round of the Smart City Mission.

“A number of aspects in the earlier proposal need to be revised,” a seior official said.
In the earlier proposal, the civic body had drawn up an estimate of around Rs 1,120 crore to be spent on various infrastructure projects. According to officials, suggestions and recommendations will be invited from members of the general public for inclusion in the fresh proposal, which will be sent to the union urban development ministry after vetting it through the Lucknow-based Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES).
A total of 12 cities across Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad, had been shortlisted by the state government to be developed as smart cities in the first phase of the central government mission. However, not a single city from the state figured in the final list of 20 cities that were declared for development in the first phase of the mission on January 28.
