Haryana to observe 2017 as ‘Garib Kalyan Varsh’

Chandigarh, Oct 26 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said that the state government has decided to observe 2017 as the “Garib Kalyan Varsh”, with a host of schemes to be rolled out next year for the poor.

The state government would come out with a number of schemes for the welfare of the poor sections of the society, Khattar told reporters here.

He said emphasis would also be laid on generating maximum employment opportunities for the youth.

Khattar, who completed two years in office today, said the outgoing year was dedicated to Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya and coincided with the Golden Jubilee formation year of the state, carved out of Punjab in 1966.

He said that he had made about 2,000 announcements during his two-year tenure for the welfare of different sections of the society.

“Out of these, 1,200 announcements have either been completed or work on them is in progress,” he added.

The work on remaining the 800 announcements is also in progress and the would be completed next year, Khattar said.

He claimed that he has provided good governance while making efforts to ensure transparency. Also, efforts have been made to streamline the systems which were creating problems for the people.

When asked whether any gift would be given to the people on completion of two years of the BJP-ruled state government, the chief minister said some announcements would be made on October 31 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi would also launch some new schemes on November 1 at a state level function in Gurgaon.
