HCLTech awarded for Water Conservation and Management Initiatives in India

New Delhi, 7th July 2023: HCLTech, an Indian IT services business, has won the Government of India’s National Water Award 2022 for its water conservation and management initiatives in India through community action and innovative technologies.
According to the government website, the National Water Awards were established by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India.
HCL Foundation Vice President of Global CSR Nidhi Pundhir described the company’s engagement in different water conservation projects across India.
She stated, “HCLTech is committed to water stewardship and supports sustainable, scalable, and innovative solutions in the use and treatment of water.”
Pundhir further added, “This award reinforces our efforts to ensure equitable and viable water stewardship with a range of long-term programs, prioritising water sustainability and community involvement in rural and urban areas in India.”
It is worth noting that the IT services firm has captured 57.9 billion gallons of water and revitalised over 200 water structures so far.
Some of the company’s projects include campaigns in Uttarakhand to increase biodiversity in the Ganga’s catchment by planting Rudraksha and other native species.
Other projects include revitalising the Periyar Canal in Kerala, removing invasive species growing on the riverbed of Vaigai in Madurai, installing rooftop rainwater harvesting structures in corporation schools in Madurai and Noida, and assisting poor farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district in converting wastelands into cultivable land through small-scale rainwater harvesting techniques.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti emphasised that HCLTech’s water conservation efforts are consistent with the Government of India’s Jal Shakti Abhiyan Programme.
The Jal Shakti Abhiyan Programme aims to replenish water sources, conserve water bodies, and increase green cover in order to improve groundwater recharge. Furthermore, these interventions target the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation) and SDG 15 (life on land).
