Horticulturist Kaushik’s new book aimed at beautifying Delhi

New Delhi, July 2 : Horticulturist Dr Ajay Kumar Kaushik’s joy knew no bounds as his maiden book titled “Basics of Landscaping” got recently launched by Delhi CM Rekha Gupta at an event in the capital. The event was graced by the presence of other distinguished personalities namely East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari, Minister of Art, Culture, Language & Tourism Kapil Mishra, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police DGP Robin Hibu and Former C.E.O of DLF Gurgaon Rajiv Talwar (retd. IAS) to name a few.
Landscaping being the Art and Science of designing, planning and modifying outdoor spaces for creating visually appealing environment, Dr Kaushik’s book promises to play a critical role in beautifying the capital city. It is quite natural that every citizen of Delhi wishes to see their city transform into a world class beautiful city, comprising well maintained ornamental greens, water bodies, wetlands, coupled with ample scope for sustaining biodiversity. It may be recalled that all major political parties promised to transform Delhi if voted to power. With the culmination of Delhi elections and the formation of a new government headed by BJP, the expectations are now humongous as voters expect results, especially as it happens to be a Triple Engine government.
Dr Kaushik’s book on “Basics of Landscaping” comes at a crucial time when Delhiites are eagerly awaiting ‘action’ getting translated into ‘results’.
The basic concept of the book is focussed around giving a sound introduction to readers about landscaping, site analysis and planning, design principles, sustainable landscaping, maintenance and care as well as speciality gardens and lighting and outdoor accessories.
All the dignitaries present during the book launch heaped praises on Dr Kaushik, and favoured the idea of beautifying Delhi with landscaping.
Sharing more on his aspirational plans, Dr Ajay Kumar Kaushik said, “The book is a culmination of the knowledge and experience that I have gathered over the years. I am extremely grateful to Sh. Robin Hibu, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police for constantly motivating me to write this book. Being a passionate nature lover, Mr Hibu has incessantly advocated for the growth and development of horticulture in the country, for ensuring a greener and a more sustainable future. He has always been in the forefront for promoting eco-friendly initiatives and for encouraging awareness about the significance of horticulture. He is pledged towards enhancing country’s green cover, boosting agricultural sustainability and inspiring masses for protecting the environment. I am also grateful to D.C Anand for his outstanding mentorship and guidance throughout the process of writing this book. He was a visionary leader in the automobile sector, revolutionizing the industry with his innovations and expertize. His contributions elevated the automobile sector to new heights, not only in India, but across the globe.
In his foreword, Vijender Gupta, Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly mentions, “It is a commendable effort by Dr Kaushik as his Book encourages readers to view landscaping as a creative and responsible endeavour-one that has the power to shape not just spaces, but communities and eco systems as well. The book will not only serve as a valuable academic resource, but also ignite a deeper appreciation for the natural world among its readers.”
In her foreword, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta wrote, “Dr Kaushik’s book addresses a vital gap by presenting landscaping not merely as a visual or aesthetic pursuit, but as a discipline deeply rooted in sustainability, ecological restoration and the reconnection of people with nature. Congratulations on this remarkable and much needed publication.”
During the course of the book launch event, CM Delhi Rekha Gupta issued directions for preparing a masterplan for greening Delhi as well as the Yamuna riverfront with flowering flora. With the Delhi government keen to commence cruise service on the Yamuna River, it will play a critical role in promoting tourism and water transport. In this regard, the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) has already announced that the initiative will not only rejuvenate the river, but also offer tourists a great experience.
Also present during the course of the book launch was I.A.S (retd) Rajeev Talwar, the former C.E.O of DLF and former M.D of DTTDC who not only appreciated the efforts of Dr Kaushik in authoring a book on landscaping, but seemed optimistic about Delhi getting transformed nto a beautiful city in times to come. On behalf of Helping Hands NGO, its founder Robin Hibu assured all the support of his organization in beautifying Delhi and in cleaning River Yamuna.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP Robin Hibu, the inspiration behind Dr Kaushik’s book said, “Our dream is to transform Delhi into a world class city, one that boasts of abundant greenery and cleanliness. I am eager to play my role towards protecting the environment and in beautifying Delhi beyond my policing duties in the capital city. The aim is to make Delhi, “Dil ki Delhi” in reality.”
