Hundreds protest at Delhi’s IGI over cancellation of Lufthansa flights

Delhi, Sept 2nd, 2022: Over 700 passengers at the Indira Gandhi Airport in Delhi, and more than 200 relatives waiting outside the terminal staged a protest on late Thursday night as almost all flights of the German carrier Lufthansa were cancelled to strikes held by the pilots.
Security concerns were also raised at the Delhi airport last night due to the movement of Lufthansa passengers at the terminal building following the cancellation of Lufthansa Airlines flights.
Germany’s Lufthansa airline today canceled 800 flights globally, affecting almost 1,30,000 passengers, after the pilots’ union announced a one-day strike as they demand a salary hike.
The flights have been canceled from its two biggest hubs, Frankfurt and Munich. The protesters were pacified by the CISF and Delhi Police after being assured that efforts were being made to make alternate arrangements for the passengers by the airline company.
Passengers were seen asking for justice and refunds at the airport.
It was also noted that most of the passengers that were expected to board the flights were students trying to reach their respective universities.
Police said they received information at 12.15 am in which it was conveyed that a crowd has gathered on the main road in front of departure Gate No. 1, T-3 and after reaching, police found that the traffic moment had slowed down and roads were blocked due to their protest.
