New Delhi, August 15, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation from Red Fort after hoisting the national flag, addressed the recent turmoil in Manipur, emphasizing the return of peace to the strife-torn northeastern state.

He expressed his concern for the lives lost and the dishonor inflicted on women, stating, “But, peace is slowly returning to the region. India stands with Manipur.” Modi highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Central and state governments in restoring peace.

He further urged the people of Manipur to build upon the newly restored peace, emphasizing that solutions can be found through peaceful means. In his speech, he stressed the significance of addressing regional aspirations, promoting unity, and overall development. “When I talk about unity…if there’s violence in Manipur, the pain is felt in Maharashtra as well,” he noted.

Prime Minister Modi commenced his 10th consecutive Independence Day speech by extending greetings to the 140 crore Indian citizens, referring to them as “parivarjan” or family members. He expressed gratitude to Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha movement and paid homage to freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, whose sacrifices paved the way for independence.

The Prime Minister’s speech began after he unfurled the flag at Delhi’s Red Fort at 7:30 AM. In a departure from his usual style, he adopted a familial tone in addressing the citizens. The event was attended by Cabinet ministers, political leaders, service chiefs, and bureaucrats.
