Mumbai, 13th May 2023: Authorities at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, have recommended to roll back the branch change to reduce student stress.

The internal institute reports emphasise that the pressure to score higher grades and earn a change in the allotted branch was a primary source of stress among many students. The authorities added that they would reduce the course per semester in the first year to remove the academic burden.

The decision was taken at the Senate’s 256th session, wherein several proposals to reduce student stress were tabled. The institution looks to become the first in its group of first-generation IITs to take such a decision and pay heed to student welfare.
