Batting first, India put up a formidable score with half centuries from Shreyas Iyer (80), Shikhar Dhawan (72), and Shubhman Gill (50).
Washington Sunder scored a 16-ball 37 to help India put up a challenging score.
Chasing the score, Tom Latham and Kane Williamson posed a partnership of 221 runs to see their team achieve victory.
It is the second time New Zealand has successfully chased down a 300-plus-run total against India in the ODIs. Latham struck 145* off just 104 balls. Meanwhile, Kane Williamson stayed unbeaten at 94 runs.
For India, debutant Umran Malik picked up 2 wickets for 66 runs. Arshdeep Singh, India’s other debutant, had a forgettable day as he went for 68 runs in 8.1 overs without a wicket.
