Indian bases in Arctic, Antarctica to mark International Yoga Day with yoga sessions

New Delhi, 19th June 2023: The Indian authorities confirmed that to commemorate International Yoga Day on June 21, yoga sessions will be held at India’s research outposts in the Arctic and Antarctic areas, as well as in countries along and around the prime meridian line.
The prime meridian (formerly known as the Greenwich Meridian) is the zero-longitude line that serves as the beginning point for measuring east and west distances worldwide.
The ‘Ocean Ring of Yoga’ would see yoga conducted in Indian navy stations, ports, and marine vessels in 34 nations, including the United States, Russia, Portugal, and Morocco.
India’s naval ships will be stationed in nine different ports worldwide as part of a Common Yoga Protocol demonstration. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways will also organise CYP demonstrations in nations with whom it has signed memorandums of understanding.
Yoga Bharatmala is another notion in which the Army, Navy, Air Force, ITBP, BSF, and BRO, will perform a chain of yoga demonstrations. Yoga Sagarmala will see yoga along the Indian shore. Yoga will be demonstrated on the flight deck of the INS Vikrant.
On June 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the global celebration of International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, while Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh will lead the national event.
