National News (04/09/2026): Adobe has announced a major leadership transition, naming Anil Chakravarthy as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. Chakravarthy will officially assume the role on December 1, 2026, and will also join Adobe’s Board of Directors.
The appointment marks a significant change at the top of the global software giant, as current CEO Shantanu Narayen prepares to step down from the chief executive role after nearly two decades at the helm. Narayen will transition to the position of Executive Chairman following the leadership change.
Adobe said its Board of Directors unanimously approved Chakravarthy’s appointment after a comprehensive selection process. During the transition period, Narayen, Chakravarthy and the Board will work closely together to ensure a smooth and effective transfer of responsibilities.
Anil Chakravarthy’s Role at Adobe
Chakravarthy currently leads Adobe’s Customer Experience Orchestration business and Worldwide Field Operations. During his tenure at Adobe, he has played an important role in expanding the company’s AI-driven product ecosystem and strengthening its digital experience business.
According to Adobe, Chakravarthy has contributed to the growth of the Adobe Experience Platform and helped advance key offerings including CX Enterprise, GenStudio and Brand Visibility. His experience across artificial intelligence, enterprise technology and customer experience is expected to play a key role as Adobe continues to navigate the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
From Informatica to Adobe
Before joining Adobe, Chakravarthy held senior leadership positions at Informatica, an enterprise cloud data management company. He joined the company in 2013 as an Executive Vice President and subsequently served as its Chief Executive Officer for nearly four years.
Earlier in his career, Chakravarthy worked with major technology and consulting companies, including Symantec, VeriSign and McKinsey & Company, gaining extensive experience across technology, business strategy and enterprise operations.
Strong Academic Background
Born in India, Chakravarthy has a strong academic background in computer science and technology. He earned his B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from the Institute of Technology, Varanasi, before pursuing higher education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he completed both his Master’s and PhD degrees.
AI to Be a Key Focus for Adobe
As Chakravarthy prepares to take over as Adobe’s CEO, one of his biggest challenges will be steering the company through the rapid transformation being driven by artificial intelligence.
With AI increasingly reshaping software, digital marketing, customer experience and creative industries, Chakravarthy will be tasked with accelerating Adobe’s AI strategy while further strengthening its digital experience and enterprise businesses.
His appointment also comes at a crucial time for Adobe, as the company continues to expand AI-powered capabilities across its product portfolio and compete in an increasingly dynamic global technology market. The leadership transition from Narayen to Chakravarthy is therefore expected to mark a new chapter for Adobe, combining the continuity of an experienced technology leadership team with a fresh focus on AI, innovation and enterprise growth.
