New Delhi, 04/07/2023: The Indian consulate in San Francisco was allegedly vandalised by Khalistani separatists on Sunday, prompting the US State Department to issue a strong rebuke condemning the attack.
“The United States strongly condemns Saturday’s reported vandalism and attempted arson against the Indian Consulate in San Francisco. Vandalism or violence against diplomatic facilities or foreign diplomats in the United States is a crime,” said Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the US State Department.
The San Francisco Fire Department immediately doused the fire at the embassy. No serious damage or injuries were recorded, and local, state, and federal authorities were contacted.
A video going viral on the internet depicts the consulate on fire with the words “violence begets violence” placed on it. The movie also included newspaper clippings about the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated terrorist who led pro-Khalistan outfits Khalistan Tiger Force and the Canadian arm of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) before being shot dead in Canada last month.
Meanwhile, pro-Khalistan sympathisers have called for a “freedom rally” in Canada. Threats to India’s envoy in Ottawa and Consul General in Toronto appear on posters for the independence protest.
The latest attack on the Indian consulate in San Francisco comes months after Khalistani rebels breached security and placed two flags with the Khalistan symbol inside the grounds.
