New Delhi, July 28, 2023: In a shocking and disturbing incident in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, a couple has been accused of selling their 8-month-old son to buy an iPhone 14. The couple, identified as Jaydev and Sathi Ghosh, reportedly wanted to use the expensive smartphone to create Instagram Reels while traveling across the state.
The matter came to light when concerned neighbors noticed the couple’s unusual behavior. Despite their baby being missing for some time, the couple seemed unconcerned and was seen flaunting the costly iPhone 14, which is priced at around Rs 70,000. Given their modest income and past financial struggles, the possession of such a high-end device raised suspicions.
Apprehensive of the situation, the neighbors alerted local councillor Tarak Guha, who promptly involved the police in the matter. Upon investigation, the mother, Sathi Ghosh, allegedly confessed to selling her own child to acquire the iPhone.
Even more alarming was the revelation that the couple had previously attempted to sell their 7-year-old daughter as well.
As a result of the shocking revelation, the police filed a complaint against the couple, and an intensive search for Jaydev Ghosh, who is currently on the run, is underway.
The woman who purchased the 8-month-old child is also facing charges of human trafficking.
This deeply distressing incident has left the community in shock, highlighting the need for vigilant action against such heinous acts. The case has raised serious concerns about the welfare and safety of children, and authorities are working diligently to ensure justice is served in this appalling matter.
