India’s Triumph at World Transplant Games 2025 Celebrated by ORGAN India; Dr. Mallika Nadda Calls Athletes “Ambassadors of Fitness”

New Delhi (3rd September 2025): ORGAN India, a flagship initiative of the NGO Parashar Foundation, held a grand felicitation ceremony in New Delhi to honor India’s historic performance at the World Transplant Games 2025 held in Dresden, Germany. The event marked a moment of national pride as the Indian contingent returned with its best-ever medal tally, capturing the hearts of the nation and breaking barriers around the conversation on organ donation.
The welcome and felicitation program, hosted by ORGAN India, served as a tribute to the 57 Indian athletes (comprising 49 organ recipients and 8 living donors) who competed alongside 1,600 participants from 51 countries across 17 sports. This was India’s largest-ever delegation to the World Transplant Games — a global sporting event recognized by the International Olympic Committee — and their results spoke volumes: India secured 63 medals in total, including 16 gold, 22 silver, and 23 bronze medals. This nearly doubled the 35 medals secured in Perth in 2023, pushing India to an impressive 13th place globally.
The event was graced by Dr. Mallika Nadda, President of Special Olympics Bharat, as the Chief Guest. In her inspiring keynote address, she commended the athletes for their extraordinary courage, spirit, and athleticism, calling them “ambassadors of fitness” and highlighting the critical social message they carry.
These athletes are transforming lives through the power of sport, said Dr. Mallika Nadda. I am truly inspired to see individuals who were once considered patients—recipients of life-saving organ transplants and even donors—standing tall as international athletes, competing and winning against the world’s best. Today’s achievements go far beyond medals. Each one of you is an icon of strength, resilience, and health. You are challenging deep-rooted stigmas surrounding organ donation and showing the nation that a second chance at life is not just possible but full of potential.
Dr. Nadda emphasized the need for greater societal awareness and institutional support for transplant recipients and donors in sport, stating: This is a field that deserves inclusion under the national sports framework. Just as the Paralympics, Special Olympics, Deaf and Blind Olympics have fought for their rightful place, this too is a movement that must be recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. I pledge to support these efforts and to advocate for the inclusion of transplant athletes in our national sports agenda.
She further added, The Fit India Movement is about celebrating every kind of fitness. These champions—who have donated organs or received them—are proving they are not just fit, but formidable. They are the best messengers for organ donation in India. Their achievements can inspire families to pledge, and shift the narrative from fear and hesitation to pride and strength.
Dr. Nadda also recognized the commitment of supporting organizations and sponsors, noting the role of the Dinesh Vyas Public Charitable Trust, the primary sponsor for the second consecutive time, as well as Subros, Geekay Winding, To The New, Organ Transplant Trust, Macleod Pharma, the Dr. O.P. Bhalla Foundation, and PUMA, which provided all athletic kits for the Indian team.
Dr. Nadda concluded her speech by reiterating the need to carry the message forward: We must take these athletes and their stories across the country. Let them be the voice that motivates society to understand the importance of organ donation, to break myths, and to build a culture of giving. They are heroes, and we must walk with them to create a healthier, more compassionate India.
In an exclusive conversation with Ten News, Dr. Mallika Nadda, congratulated the Parashar Foundation, ORGAN India, and Organ Donation India for organizing the event that celebrated transplant athletes. She praised the inspiring stories of organ donors and recipients who defied all odds to compete internationally and win medals for India. Calling them true “ambassadors of fitness,” she highlighted their role in promoting the Fit India Movement and breaking myths around organ donation. Dr. Nadda emphasized that such initiatives not only honor the spirit of sport but also raise crucial awareness about the importance and impact of organ donation in society.
With this historic performance and growing support, India is fast emerging as a rising force in the global transplant sports movement—an inspiring blend of sportsmanship, science, and social change.
ORGAN India is launched by the Parashar Foundation, ORGAN India works to promote awareness on organ donation, provide resources to donor and recipient families, and support the reintegration of transplant recipients into normal, healthy, and fulfilling lives—including through sport.
