New Delhi, 14th June 2023: The ground authorities at the Delhi International Airport confirmed that an IndiGo aircraft suffered a tail strike on its arrival at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which led to the country’s aviation safety regulator, DGCA, to order a probe into the accident.

According to the official, the airline has also grounded its operating crew on the directions of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

IndiGo verified the incident in a statement and added that the flight was headed to Kolkata when the mishap happened. According to the official, the flight was routine until the crew thought they drifted longer than normal during the approach to land in Delhi on runway 27, so they launched a go-around.

The bottom of the tail portion of the aircraft contacted the runway surface and received damage during the go-around manoeuvre. The operating crew has been off-rostered pending inquiry.

According to the statement, the aircraft was declared grounded in Delhi for necessary assessment and repairs, which also stated that relevant authorities are investigating the incident.
