New Delhi (India), 14th April 2023: The North Coast of Java in Indonesia was hit by an earthquake on Friday with a magnitude of 7.0 on Richter scale, according to the United States Geological Survey(USGS). Around 3:25 IST(0955 GMT) an earthquake was felt 96 km in the sea, to the north of Tuban.

After the epicentre was found to be at a depth of 594 kilometres, Indonesia’s geological agency ruled out a tsunami.

A spokesperson for Indonesia’s Disaster Agency told Reuters that Surabaya, Tuban, Denpasar, and Semarang were among the cities that felt the quake the most strongly.

Since the earthquake was so deep under the sea, there hasn’t been any documented damage, according to Muhari. “I don’t anticipate any damages, but we are still keeping an eye on things.”

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) estimated the depth at 592 km (368 miles) and the magnitude at 6.5.
