New Delhi (23/04/2022): The Delhi University’s proctor office has issued directives for protests within campus premises. “It is mandated that they have to give prior information about any protest or gathering taking place. Additionally, strict action will be taken, in case of violence or public property damage,” said the proctor, Rajni Abbi.
The university had issued a form in 2019, for the student community, to give the required information at least 24 hours before a protest. It involves giving the organizer’s name, college or department, contact number, email, and course among other details. Apart from the type and nature of the protest or gathering, it also includes the number of loudspeakers and participants that are expected to attend.
The proctor stated that this is done to ensure student’s safety as well. No one was asking for permission. She told the TOI that recently a student informed us that he had been on a four-day hunger strike and that we had no information about it.
