New Delhi, 14 November 2022: The Delhi Police has detained a guy for reportedly killing his girlfriend, dismembering her body, and discarding the pieces throughout the city.
The police have recently discovered the incident that happened in May, six months earlier.
The accused, Aftab Poonawaala, was detained after the deceased woman’s family filed a complaint against him. They further said that the woman’s body has still not been found.
Upon investigation, it was found that the deceased was a call centre employee in Delhi who was originally from Mumbai. While in Mumbai, her family reported her missing after she stopped returning their calls in May.
The woman was killed around the same time by the accused, who works at a private company in Gurgaon after the two got into a fight, police said. “Poonawaala informed us that because the woman wanted to wed him, they frequently got into tense confrontations. Poonawaala fatally strangled her in the midst of a fight over the relationship in May,” they added.
The defendants allegedly kept the body at their Mehrauli home in South Delhi for days. Then, he allegedly chopped the body into pieces and dumped them at various locations over the following few weeks in an effort to avoid capture.
Only after, the woman’s parents rejected their relationship, the couple moved to Delhi early this year. This month, the woman’s family travelled to Delhi in search of her after discovering she was missing from her leased home in Mehrauli.
The Delhi Police were informed of the details by the Mumbai Police, who then filed a kidnapping case and detained the suspect.
“We have detained Poonawaala and retrieved evidence related to the homicide from his possession. He has admitted to the crime and described how the victim was killed and chopped to death. We are questioning him while simultaneously attempting to locate the woman’s body,” an officer stated.
