New Delhi (20/04/2022): Bulldozers and JCB have found an unlikely fanbase in the new India. They have become the hot favourite of a certain segment that believes that using such machines to deliver ‘fast-track’ justice is the best way forward towards protecting their rights.
The phenomenon that was born in UP, spread to Madhya Pradesh recently and made its debut in the streets of Delhi today.
Bulldozers were pressed into action to demolish encroachment in Jahangirpuri area of the national capital. Indeed, the government agencies had only woken up this so called encroachment only after the area got hit by a communal riot. Another factor that made this encroachment stand out was the fact that nearly all of it belong to a specific religion.
While the homes and shops were being razed, a specific segment on the internet was also celebrating the action, branding as the swift justice of new India.
However, the question remains if police and politicians have to deliver justice, what good are courts for? And now that we have come to bulldozing homes and dreams, how far are we from the Taliban style of justice where public canning and shooting remains a preferred mode of punishments?
In other words, we are slowly but constantly turning into the devil that we so much hated. While constantly criticizing the bad practices of certain societies and cults, some people have knowingly or unknowingly become fan of them and are quick to clap and praise as soon as they are enacted with a slight twist to suit their agenda.
To sum it up all, it is high time to stand for the real idea of India, stop being an admirer of the mob justice and repose our unadultered faith in the book called constitution.
