New Delhi (India), May 3, 2023: In a significant development, the Income Tax Department conducted a surprise raid on the Mysuru residence of Ashok Kumar Rai’s brother, Subramania Rai, and uncovered a staggering sum of Rs. 1 crore in cash hidden in a tree.

Ashok Kumar Rai is a prominent leader of the Congress party in Karnataka, and his brother Subramania Rai is the party’s candidate for the Puttur constituency in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

In light of the upcoming polls, the Karnataka Police have ramped up their efforts to crack down on illegal activities, leading to a spate of raids across the state. The raid at Subramania Rai’s residence is the latest in a series of such operations, and the video footage of the search reveals a large sum of cash neatly stacked in a box and concealed on a tree.

The implementation of the model code of conduct for the election has resulted in a wave of seizures of illicit cash, with a total of Rs. 110 crore being recovered so far. The Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka has reported that over 2,346 FIRs have been filed in connection with the seizures.

As the political atmosphere in Karnataka heats up ahead of the May 10 Assembly elections, such developments are likely to generate intense public interest and scrutiny.
