ITBP mountaineers climb Mount Karzok Kangri (6150 m) in peak winters

NEW DELHI (23/02/2022) :The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) central mountaineering team has scaled the peak on 20 February, 2022 in extreme weather conditions where the minimum temperature is minus 40 degree celsius these days. This was the first ever ascent to the Karzok Kangri.

Enduring physical and mental toughness in extreme winters, the team of 6 top class mountaineers of the ITBP led by the ace mountaineer Commandant Ratan Singh Sonal scaled the 20,177 feet high peak which located in the cold desert of Ladakh. Dy Commandant Anoop Negi was the deputy leader of the group.

The team did not use any special mountaineering equipment and support system and completed the ascent with high level of physical stamina and mutual coordination of the group.

Raised in 1962, the ITBP guards the India-China borders. The Force had completed more than 225 mountaineering expeditions which is a distinctive record of the mountain warfare trained Force.
