On December 16, 2014, the Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) of the college organized a Cancer awareness programme in the college premises in collaboration with Jagriti- The awareness unit of Indian Cancer Society. The program started with lamp lighting ceremony followed by Saraswati Vandana-seeking blessings from Maa Saraswati. The Chief Guest Rita Bhalla was then presented with a bouquet of flowers by Dr Vineet Kansal, Director, ITSEC. Rita Bhalla has been actively involved in Cancer Care for the past 12 years and has also received the AWWA Award of Excellence.
It was then followed by an address by Dr Vineet Kansal Director-ITSEC, who emphasised on the need for awareness regarding Cancer, steps for its precautions and preventions. He also highlighted the responsibilities of an individual towards such perils of the society. Then, Rita Bhalla, President of Jagriti – the awareness unit of Indian Cancer Society, Delhi enlightened the audience on the initiatives which are needed to tackle and eradicate Cancer. She spoke in details that cancer is a lifestyle disease and can be prevented by changing our lifestyle. Lot of betel-nut and tobacco chewing, smoking can lead to lung, mouth cancer, Spicy food, early and late marriage can also lead to cancer of other parts of our body. Wrong food i.e junk food, lot of sugery food can lead to cancer. One must go for lot of vegetables and fruits to prevent cancer and remain fit. In non-veg one can have fish and chicken as good food avoid meat. Half an hour exercise is a must for all. She also highlighted on the collective initiatives which can further help in overcoming Cancer.
All the HOD’s, staff members, students of various streams attended the programme. The programme finished with an oath to remove the Cancer from the root. The coordinator of the programme was Ms Kalpana Hazarika, AP-EEE. The event ended up being a grand success in terms of enlightening Faculty, Staff and students on Cancer.
