Gandhinagar (Gujarat), 10th April 2023: Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Managing Director Jayen Mehta stated that the company’s foray into the state’s dairy industry is not to compete but to live with the indigenous Nandini brand amid calls to boycott the dairy giant Amul’s goods in Karnataka.
All hotel owners have been urged by the Bruhat Bengaluru Hotel Association to boycott Amul products and use the “state’s pride” Nandini to help the dairy farmers of Karnataka. In addition to the boycott call, the Karnataka administration has come under fire from opposition politicians for allegedly harming the “state’s pride,” the Nandini brand.
Mehta stated in an exclusive interview with The Indian Express said, “It is not about Amul vs Nandini, but rather Amul and Nandini. Both cooperatives are owned by farmers and focus on related issues. Our goal is not to outbid Nandini.”
Boycott Amul and “Go Back to Amul” have been used as protests, and Mehta responded by saying, “We cannot comment on or criticise the reactions coming our way. Even those who disagree with us are our clients. They can say whatever they want. However, nothing will alter the positive relationship Nandini and Amul share. We collaborate closely with Nandini on a number of projects. In the Mother Dairy facility in Bengaluru, we have been packaging Amul ice cream using Nandini milk for the past ten years.”
