New Delhi, 13 October 2022: Following AIMIM’s FIR, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has also send a letter to Delhi Police demanding that Parvesh Verma, Nandkishore Gurjar, and other BJP members be punished for allegedly making divisive comments at the Virat Hindu Sabha earlier this month.
However, Delhi Police has not yet taken any action and has not filed an FIR in the case.
This development came after MP Verma, Gurjar, and members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and religious officials delivered comments that were said to be hateful toward the Muslim population. Gurjar alluded to his role in the Northeast Delhi riots while Verma demanded a “complete boycott” of “these individuals” and declared, “We will slaughter jihadis.”
The action was sought against the speakers and the event organizers, in a meeting of the delegation from the organization with the Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Dependra Pathak.
In the statement, the organisation reasoned that as responsible and peace-loving citizens, we humbly ask that you please take note of the event and instruct the concerned officials to take strict action not only against the event organizer but also against all those who made incendiary remarks about Muslims so that such hate mongers could experience exemplary punishment, according to a press release from the organization.
They further requested that the Special CP ensure that an FIR was filed in their names despite the fact that Delhi police had not yet done so against the hate speakers. Whatever steps have been done thus far are insufficient, it was added. The Delhi Police have only filed a case against the event organizers under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for failing to obtain authorization for the event.
However, a VHP representative refuted the accusations, claiming that police personnel was present at the event and that they had permission from the police to hold it.
