Jharkhand mob lynching Victim Tabrez Ansari dies, Family Alleges lapses in Police probe

In Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur, there is a question arising about the role of police
in the case of Tabrez Ansari. After Tabrez Ansari was attacked and forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram” & “Jai Hanuman”, Jharkhand Police recorded a “confession statement” from him but without a single line on the assault that was recorded by the attackers on their mobile phones.


According to the information received, when the crowd brought Ansari to the police station, the police filed their statement, but did not mention the attack on them in the complaint. Tabrez was pressured to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Jai Hanuman’ in Tabarase in Jharkhand. The attackers also made a video of this incident.

Tabrej was arrested on June 18 in the case of theft and sent to judicial custody. Tabrez died in hospital on June 22. On Monday, police arrested 11 people in this case and suspended two policemen.

Ansari who was taken to the district hospital for treatment, but his family alleged that the cops had shown unusual haste in shifting him to the jail, where he allegedly succumbed to his injuries.
