Only JJP can now turn the cards, and in the glory of single-handedly altering the political landscape of Haryana, JJP’s Dushyant Chautala has said his party is ready for alliance with whoever offers him the chief minister’s chair.
This is something like the best situation for JJP till date as even with low votes on their side, JJP is the only party which can help any of the two major parties of Haryana to rule for next five years.
The statement follows close on the heels of the Congress reaching out to Chautala with a ‘gathbandhan’ offer as his party gains the lead in 12 seats as indicated by present trends.
It can also be a comeback for the Congress, plagued by the Lok Sabha debacle and infighting, which has gained the lead on 32 seats compared to the BJP’s 36. Buoyed by the success, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who is a veteran in the state and Sonia Gandhi’s trusted lieutenant, has been given a free hand.
In a phone conversation with Gandhi, Hooda apprised her of the political situation and was asked to take whatever steps may be required to turn the fortunes of the beleaguered party.
