JNU molestation case accused held by Delhi Police from Munirka

New Delhi, January 24: The person who allegedly molested a female PhD student of Jawaharlal Nehru University inside the University campus on 17 January has been held by the police from Munirka on Sunday, the police moreover, informed that the accused is not a student of JNU.

He has been identified as a 27-year-old Akshay Dolaiv who works in a mobile shop at Bhikaji Kama Place, RK Puram, Delhi and hails from 24 South Pargana in West Bengal.

DCP southwest district Gaurav Sharma said, “Delhi police arrested the person who allegedly molested a female PhD student of JNU inside the university campus.”

He added, “The accused is not a student of JNU. He also ran away with her mobile phone. It was recovered by the police.” ANI reported.

Moreover, the police said that the man managed to enter the campus as previously, he used to go there for ticketing work.

Furthermore, he entered the campus after consuming liquor and started wandering on his two-wheelers inside the JNU campus followed three other girls of JNU that same night before molesting the PhD student.

The police said, ”He saw a girl jogging alone towards the East gate, he stopped the girl and attempted to molest her but when she tried to call the police using her mobile phone, he took her phone and ran away on his two-wheelers from the spot.”

Moreover, the DCP informed, “The police team checked and analysed the footage of around 1,000 cameras installed at the JNU campus, Baba Gang Nath Marg, entire Nelson Mandela Road, Asaf Ali Road, the entire stretch of Outer Ring Road encompassing South West district and Munirka,” ANI quoted.

Following the incident, a case was registered at the Vasant Kunj North police station. Over 60 police personnel worked on the case, said DCP Gaurav Sharma southwest district.
