New Delhi, Nov 14, 2022: US President Joe Biden and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping have both voiced hope that their countries can manage growing differences and prevent conflict as they meet for the first time in more than three years.
This is Biden and Jinping’s first sitdown since the former took office in 2021.
“The world expects that China and the United States will properly handle the relationship,” China’s leader told Biden.
US officials stated ahead of the meeting that Biden wished to set in place certain “guardrails” in the relationship with China and to assess how to prevent “red lines” that could result in a conflict between the world’s two largest economies.
Taiwan continues to be the most sensitive issue as the US has been increasing support for Taiwan. On the other hand, China has also increased its threats to seize control of the island.
