New Delhi: BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday claimed that BJP government as well as petroleum ministry is tirelessly working to control the skyrocketing price of the petroleum products.

The recent jump in the petroleum products has left the common man with tearing eye. It is not only affecting the daily commuters but also to every household because the prices of essential commodities have gone up.

As per the government data, petrol price is Rs 80 per liter and Rs 71 per liter. Rates vary as per the state government taxes. In Delhi, a liter of petrol is costing Rs 76.57 while that of diesel per liter was Rs 67.82. Though, this is the highest rate of petroleum products since independence.

Replying to a question of why petrol and diesel rates are skyrocketing after Karnataka election, he said, “The recent sort up in the rates of petrol and diesel is because of the hike of petroleum products in international market. This is nothing to do with the government, however, government is concerned about it and meetings with the ministry officials and Petroleum Minister A Pradhan is going to take place tomorrow. I’m sure, soon it will reduce,” he added.

He said while addressing media at party headquarter in Delhi on Tuesday.

Delhi Congress chief takes out cycle rally in Protest

However, to show their disappointment over the price of petroleum products Delhi Congress president and former Union Minister Ajay Maken hold a cycle rally in at India Gate on Tuesday evening.

While addressing gathering he said, “During the Congress regime, on May 23, 2013 a liter of petrol cost Rs 63.09 while the diesel price was at Rs 49.69 per liter in Delhi. Though, on 21 May, 2018, a liter of petrol in Delhi was costing Rs 76.57 while that of diesel per liter was Rs 67.82.”

Mounting attack on BJP and AAP, he further said, “The BJP Government at the Centre has hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel 11 times while the Kejriwal Government in Delhi increased VAT on petrol and diesel thrice. As a result, the prices of petrol and diesel have shot up in Delhi. He said whenever the prices of petrol and diesel go up, the prices of essential commodities also go up.”

“Modi Government as well as AAP government should provide relief from the huge increase in  the prices of petrol and diesel, then it should cut back on the increase in the excise duty on petrol and diesel which will  give a huge relief to the people of Delhi,” he added.
