Kanpur Police arrest man from Rewa over objectionable social media posts against Akhilesh Yadav’s daughter
Kanpur, June 22 (IANS) Kanpur Cyber Crime Police have taken significant action in a case involving alleged objectionable social media posts and comments targeting Aditi Yadav, the daughter of Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav. Police have arrested Nageshwar Singh Baghel, a resident of Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh.
The action was initiated following a complaint filed by the National Secretary of the Samajwadi Party Advocates’ Wing.
During the investigation, cyber police identified the accused through digital tracking, analysis of social media activity, and electronic evidence. Following his arrest, Baghel was produced before a court, which later granted him bail.
According to police officials, efforts are underway to trace and apprehend other accused persons named in the case. Investigators have also found that one of the social media accounts linked to the controversy was allegedly being operated from the United States. Further details regarding the account are being gathered as part of the ongoing probe.
The cyber police said a thorough investigation into the matter is continuing.
Earlier, on June 17, First Information Reports (FIRs) continued to be registered against individuals accused of making objectionable comments on social media about Akhilesh Yadav’s daughter.
In Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district, police also booked a political leader Prashant Mehto in connection with the controversy. Samajwadi Party’s Madhya Pradesh president Manoj Yadav had lodged a complaint with police officials in Bhopal, following which a case was registered against Mehto in Chhatarpur.
The development came after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condemned such remarks and warned of strict action against those targeting daughters on social media platforms.
On June 13, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath publicly defended Aditi Yadav, a student at University College London and the elder daughter of Akhilesh Yadav, after she was allegedly targeted through fake and defamatory social media posts.
Condemning the remarks, Yogi said such comments against a daughter were unacceptable and revealed that he had directed police to register an FIR against those responsible.
The controversy erupted after several social media users allegedly circulated posts making false claims about Aditi Yadav. According to a police complaint, a photograph of her was shared online along with fabricated allegations. The complainant alleged that the image had been morphed and that the claims were entirely false and malicious.
