Karnataka rolls out five guaranteed schemes promised during elections

Bengaluru, 02nd June 2023: Karnataka government today cleared Congress’s five “guarantees” made to the people in the run up to the Assembly elections, and offered clarifications, explained conditions, and announced deadlines.

The free electricity scheme (Gruha Jyoti) will depend on the yearly consumption at the household level, and will start from July 1. The people would be provided with free electricity for upto 200 units, while as a part of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, Rs 2000 monthly assistance would be given to the woman head of every family in the bank accounts linked to Aadhaar.

This scheme would be beginning from August 15, after the verification process of every Aadhar is completed.

The Anna Bhagya scheme promises an assured 10 kg of rice free to every member of a BPL household, while the Uchita Prayana guarantees free bus travel for women within the state in state-run buses from June 11. 50 per cent of seats will be reserved for men only in Karnataka State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses.
